The events of the 15th Danilo Re Trophy will take place in the Engadin, at the heart of the Alps, from 19th to 22nd January 2010. The directors of the Swiss National Park (SNP) are happy to be able to welcome to their region teams from different protected areas of the Alps.

The SNP is not only the oldest national park in the Alps, but also one of the smallest, with a surface area of 170 km². It is under very strict protection and therefore listed as IUCN Category Ia. Our aims are the protection of nature, research and information. Visitors can explore the park thanks to almost 80 km of marked paths.

The SNP offers unique experiences in the heart of nature, experiences which stimulate both body and mind. The people who work here or in other parks not only have to possess the necessary knowledge, but also be in excellent physical condition. This same set of qualities is expressed in the Danilo Re Trophy sports competitions as well as in the accompanying seminar. Finally, it will also be possible to visit the national park Visitor Centre in Zernez, inaugurated in 2008.

Thus sport and education rally and bring closer together the participants in accordance with the main aim of the event: to strengthen friendly exchange and fraternity between colleagues working in the different protected areas of the Alps.

An SNP team has been taking part in the Danilo Re Trophy competitions for many years. In 2010 we will take on the responsibility of organising this event and with all our hearts we wish to make it a great success for all the participants.

Heinrich Haller
Director, Swiss National Park
