|
With their distinctive appearance, the Dolomites have a unique geological formation. The landscapes are a paradise for nature lovers, walkers and climbers alike, whilst at the same time providing a habitat for a wide range of wild animals and rare plants. At the 33rd meeting of the World Heritage Committee held in Seville at the end of June 2009, the Committee voted to approve the application from the Dolomites. The joint application was submitted to UNESCO by the provinces of South Tyrol, Trentino, Pordenone, Belluno and Udine. The addition of the Dolomites to the list of world heritage sites will result in a lot of recognition for these regions. However, the classification is also tied to improved conservation of natural resources and the landscape in the interest of posterity. We would like to congratulate the Dolomites on their inclusion in the list! |
