“The Wall”: a concrete example for all

This event, organised by the partners of the Ecological Continuum Initiative, consists in putting up a factitious wall in 6 big alpine cities: Zürich for Switzerland, Milan for Italy, Münich for Germany, Ljubljana for Slovenia, Lyon for France and Vienna for Austria, on the 20th of October 2010.

The aim is to sensibilise the population and the media of the alpine arc on the problems, created by fragmentation of space and natural habitat, caused by constructions, fences and infrastructure (roads, highways…), which hinder the migration of various species and lead, to an ineluctable impoverishment of our biodiversity.

This phenomenon is even more important as climate change causes a raising need of wildlife migration. This way, these walls symbolise the blockages of migratory tracks of species and will provide the opportunity to speak to the public via explanatory signs, photographical exposition and video projections.
