|
The conference, organised by ALPARC, will be held on 15 and 16 October 2009 in Berchtesgaden National Park, Germany. |
The conference will examine the benefits and importance of creating an ecological network in the Alps as one way of adapting to climate change, which has more immediate repercussions for the Alps than for other regions.
Issues discussed at the conference will include the impact of climate change on biodiversity and the consequences, and the migration of various species. Participants will assess adaptation strategies that could be used in the Alps – such as the creation of the Alpine Ecological Network – and will consider how protected areas can contribute to the process of adaptation.
The conference will also examine the broader issue of Europe-wide strategies and will hear presentations on projects that extend beyond the Alps – in particular the idea of creating an ecological corridor between the Pyrenees, Alps and Carpathians, three European mountain ranges that constitute part of the same biogeographic region.
