A new Workshop about indicators!

”An alpine system of indicators for the protected areas"

The Alpine Network of Protected Areas (ALPARC), coordinated by the Task Force Protected Areas of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention, introduced since 2006 various workshops of reflection on the theme of “efficiency indicators”.

At the same time, the Network of Swiss Parks started to study indicators, in order to evaluate the efficiency of measures in the management of protected areas in 5 categories:

1. Nature conservation and landscape protection
2. Traditional activities and sustainable development
3. Communication and environmental education
4. Management of protected areas (structures, staff,…)
5. Research activities

ALPARC and the Network of Swiss Parks, decided to work together on elaboration of the first proposition of a concept of indicators for the management of protected areas.

The primary objective of this workshop is a creation of a new system of indicators for alpine areas to evaluate the efficiency of management’s measures.
