Declaration on biodiversity in Switzerland

Date :
26/11/2010
Keywords :
Biodiversity   Switzerland

The aim: to take action and to vigorously promote research over the next decade

In the wake of the Nagoya Biodiversity Summit held in Japan, leading scientists, politicians, decision-makers and experts met in Villars sur Glâne in Switzerland on 8 and 9 November for the conference organised by the Swiss Biodiversity Forum of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) entitled "The future of biodiversity in Switzerland".

The conference concluded that Switzerland needs to make a considerable and concerted effort if it wishes to preserve the natural world as we know it. Around 300 specialists adopted a declaration containing 11 recommendations. The declaration will now be presented to the President of the Swiss Federal Council, Doris Leuthard, and to the members of the National Council and the Council of States for inclusion in the national strategy that is currently being drafted.
