Project ECONNECT

ECONNECT - « Restoring the web of life »

The new ETC project ECONNECT has been accepted by the European authorities in June 2008. The project aims at the enhancement of ecological connectivity in the Alpine Space.

Its main objective of ECONNECT is to protect biodiversity by creating an alpine ecological network. International umbrella organisations closely linked to the Alpine Convention, scientific institutions and local implementation partners (protected areas, local administrations) have joined forces to demonstrate needs and options for action and develop innovative instruments for ecological connectivity. First concrete actions are foreseen in the 7 pilot regions of the project involving different local stakeholders.

Represented by the Task Force Protected Areas, ALPARC is one of the 16 partners of this modell project and leadpartner of Workpackage 7 dealing with implementation in pilot areas. Various protected areas of ALPARC are also activelly involved in this project: they are at the heart of the pilot regions.
