2008 was a very important year for ecological networks in the Alps. Here is a brief overview of everything that has been done.

Phenoclim is both a scientific and educational programme involving various public (schools, associations, individuals, protected areas) in data collection. The 2011 Phenoclim spring campaign has just started… It’s the perfect time to join the french, italian and swiss protected areas which are already involved in the project!

Under the umbrella of the ECONNECT project, during three years, 16 international partners worked towards extending and protecting the Alpine ecological network. The results of their work were presented in Berchtesgaden, Germany, from 26th to 28th September 2011.

Stop, you cannot pass!

A huge wall blocks the path of the pedestrians at the place Hviezdoslavovo namestie, in the center of Bratislava. After some Alpine towns, also one Carpathian city can see one of its street blocked by a huge obstacle.

Otters continue to astonish the scientific community. For decades, the otter was on the brink of extinction but the population is now growing rapidly without any human assistance. Sightings of the mammals, which are part of the weasel family (Mustelidae), are becoming more common throughout the Alps, particularly in Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland.
