ECONNECT is a project of the European ETC « Alpine Space » programme. It aims at the enhancement of ecological connectivity in the Alpine Space by overcoming physical and juridical barriers.

A new tool available in the ALPARC Resource-Library: The Ecological Continuum Initiative just published online a catalogue of possible measures for improving ecological connectivity in English, French, German and Italian language.

This 15th -16th November the meeting in Bolzano was the occasion to give a progress report on the project for all partners. The specific indicators of management and measures of connectivity to be adopted were indexed for each pilot area.

A larger project for three years about the importance and role of the protected areas in times of climate change started in January 2010 and continues in 2011. The projects is being lead in three different approaches, regarding the issue.

Under the umbrella of the ECONNECT project, during three years, 16 international partners worked towards extending and protecting the Alpine ecological network. The results of their work were presented in Berchtesgaden, Germany, from 26th to 28th September 2011.

The first newsletter of the work group “Trame Verte et Bleue” (Green and Blue Belt) that is coordinated by the French Federation of Regional Nature Parks has been published.

The first meetings of the pilot regions took place during 2009 with already encouraging results concerning the definition of data needs, the importance linked to legal aspects and the choice of species within the ecological network.
