The Danilo Re Meet, which brings together large numbers of Alpine protected area staff, is now into its 15th year. As well as being a sporting competition, the Meet is an occasion to get together, compare notes and celebrate, all of which cements friendships and highlights the drive and dedication of all those who work together for nature conservation.
The event is held in memory of Danilo Re, a warden who was killed in the course of his professional duties. This year the Meet was held on 19-22 January 2010 at Scuol in Switzerland.
The Swiss National Park organised this year's Meet in conjunction with ALPARC. The Danilo Re Meet is held every year and is co-organised by ALPARC – the Alpine Network of Protected Areas – which is managed by the Protected Areas Task Force of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention.

The competition was won by the Slovenian team from the Triglav National Park, who will also be hosting next year's Meet. Second place went to the host park, the Swiss National Park, with the Austrian Hohe Tauern National Park coming third.

The full results can be seen here .

As always, the Meet also included a thematic seminar. The subject for 2010 was avalanches. Experts from the Davos-based Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research gave presentations on their working methods and avalanche-prevention techniques. The seminar provided invaluable training for all those who are exposed to this kind of hazard on a daily basis.

The next Meet will be held in 2011 in the Triglav National Park !
