The corridor between the Alps and the Carpathians is a traditional migration route for wildlife. This corridor does not only connect the Eastern border of the Alps with the Little Carpathians in Slovakia but also crosses a highly dynamic European region located between the cities of Bratislava, Sopron and Vienna. |

Two important events were characterizing the year 2008 in the Carpathians. In June the second conference of the Ministers of the Carpathian Convention took place in Bucharest (Romania) and in the month of September the first conference of the Carpathian Network of Protected Areas (CNPA) has been organized in Poiana Brasov (Romania). |

Stop, you cannot pass! A huge wall blocks the path of the pedestrians at the place Hviezdoslavovo namestie, in the center of Bratislava. After some Alpine towns, also one Carpathian city can see one of its street blocked by a huge obstacle. |

Concerning ecological connectivity things are moving in the Alps: on the new homepage www.alpine-ecological-network.org you can find a detailed description of the “Ecological Continuum Project” as well as an introduction to the work of the platform “ecological networks” of the Alpine Convention.

ALPARC is pleased to present the multivision "for the Alps", an audiovisual production built around more than 400 photographs painstakingly selected from the 10,000 shots taken and shortlisted by park officers in nearly 60 protected areas. These areas are represented by 20 management bodies who are full partners in this unique creative piece.

The Task Force Protected Areas had the honour to welcome the State Secretary of the German Ministry of Environment, Mr. Michael Müller, in the French protected areas of the Alps. From 27th - 30th July 2009 he visited Chambéry, the Vanoise National Park, the Ecrins National Park and the Chartreuse Nature Regional Park. |
