Protected Areas as Tools for Regional Development – Perspectives for Research and Management

Date: Thursday & Friday 13th/14th of October 2011, Excursion Saturday 15th of October 2011

Protected areas, like national and regional nature parks, UNESCO biosphere reserves and world heritage sites, often have to deal with the latent risk of a clash between regional development and the protection of nature and landscape. Nowadays the main challenge is the integration of nature and landscape protection with the regional development in protected areas and their adjacent regions.

In this workshop it will be discussed the state of art, the gaps and the perspectives in research about this integration. The overriding aim is to identify and address perspectives for research in the field of protected areas and regional development and make major contributions to the identification of new research themes in this area.

The workshop addresses researchers and experts from related areas of practice (e.g. park administration, regional policy, tourism, agriculture) who deal with the subject of protected areas and regional development.

You find more detailed information in the programme.

Registration online until August 31 2011.
