The Alpine Salamander (Salamandra atra Laurenti, 1768) is an urodel amphibian hard to get in touch with because it lives at high altitude and it shows a demure behaviour. For those reasons several aspects of its biology are still obscure, and quite a little is known about the status of the Italian populations.
The “Alpine Salamander” Workshop of Morbegno, open to faunists, naturalists and to everyone who is interested in the study and conservation of this and others amphibians, aims at promoting a synergy of transalpine research that will involve Swiss, Austrian and Italian specialists. During the workshop will be shown the initial results about the new and capillary research on the Orobie Alps and on the rethic side of Valtellina, the last knowledge about the distribution of the two spotted subspecies, Salamandra atra aurorae Trevisan, 1982 and Salamandra atra pasubiensis Bonato & Steinfartz, 2005, the data of the study on the mithocondrial DNA even of the Italian populations and the presentation of the Alpensalamander Project.
Participation at the Workshop is free
