Danilo Re Trophy 2009

The organisers of the 14th Danilo Re Meet decided to invite wardens from the Carpathian protected areas to take part in the event for the first time. Two teams made the trip to Mittersill (Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria) to take part in the sporting, thematic and celebratory event: one team from Romania (Piatra Craiului and Bicaz Gorges parks) and one Slovakian team (from the Slovakian Rangers' Association). We can only hope that this invitation will become a tradition and will serve to strengthen links between the Alpine and Carpathian protected areas.

A cross-border biosphere reserve

Ukraine and Romania have combined forces in order to boost international cooperation. The project to create a new cross-border biosphere reserve linking the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve (UA), Maramures mountains nature park and Rodna mountains biosphere reserve (RO) was approved last week in Kiev (Ukraine). The initiative is being supported by Germany.

A new publication

ALPARC has just publised a new brochure order which traces the development of cooperation between the Alpine and Carpathian protected areas. The brochure also defines priorities for the CNPA (Carpathian Network of Protected Areas) in terms of international cooperation, primarily with ALPARC. In the context of this cooperation, an international conference will be held in Slovakia from 2-4 July 2009 on the subject of "Large carnivores: management, research and communication strategies in protected areas". More details.
